On 5 January 2026, in Coelho Neto (Maranhao), an unidentified armed individual shot and killed a teenaged boy in the Bom Sucesso neighbourhood. The perpetrator called the boy's name in front of a house and fired against him once he went outside. The boy had a police record for drug trafficking and the perpetrator escaped immediately. Police are investigating if the shooting was motivated by drug trafficking disputes. The authorship and motivations are unknown. 1 fatality.
