On 5 January 2026, an unidentified armed group opened fire on the tires and windows of a public transport bus traveling from Addis Ababa to Debre Markos, carrying 51 passengers, in Ali Doro, Degem (North Shewa, Oromia). 3 to 4 passengers were injured (some sources mentioned that 6-10 passengers died, fatalities not confirmed), and 4 passengers were abducted, including a supervisor of the transport company. The gunmen released all of the women passengers and fled as other passengers ran and escaped the attack. Other buses that were following the bus also returned to Fiche when the bus was attacked. The journey resumed after security forces arrived at the scene and exchanged fire with the abductors (coded separately). The transport company manager stated that four people were confirmed missing, while the company transported the remaining passengers to their destination by another bus.
