On 4 January 2026, in Maungdaw township (Maungdaw district, Rakhine state), the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) abducted 5 civilians (a 9-year-old boy, a 38-year-old woman, a 32-year-old woman and two 39-year-old men) who were trying to enter Bangladesh for medical care.The two male abductees were beaten. They later escaped by jumping off a mountainside while being taken to another area at night.
