On 4 January 2026, seven members of ARSA abducted and assaulted 8 people including 3 Bangladeshi guides and 5 belonging to Rakhine ethnicity, when they crossed the Bangladesh border in Naikhongchhari upazila (Bandarban, Chittagong), amid recent incidents of targeting of Myanmar people by members of ARSA. The assailants took the victims into a hilly terrain area, tied up the five adult men with ropes, beat them with sticks, and robbed them of their belongings. Five of the detainees including the 3 Bangladeshi guides managed to escape later in the night, while 3 remain in ARSA custody.
