On 4 January 2026, the relatives of a wanted man attacked a Syrian police-affiliated patrol (which was carrying out an operation to arrest the wanted individual) and attacked the Mukhtar of Tafas who was accompanying the Syrian police patrol in Tafas city in rural Dara. The patrol was forced to release the arrested individual and an exchange of gunfire between the attackers and Syrian police took place. There were no fatalities.
