Around 4 January 2026 (as reported), in La Encarnacion, Zacatecas, suspected members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) shot at National Guard officers who were chasing them from the town of El Chique. The gang members fled, but during the chase, the officers located and dismantled 15 camps suspected of being used by the cartel. There, the officers seized 17 explosive devices and nine grenades. There were no casualties.
