On 4 January 2026, a roadside IED planted by Al Shabaab exploded, targeting AUSSOM UPDF and government security forces (SNA) convoy near K60 village (Afgooye, Lower Shabelle). Al Shabaab claimed to have killed 2 SNA soldiers, and 3 others were injured.
