On 4 January 2026, Wazalendo from Mayi Mayi (RNL) loyal to Fiston Njoli, clashed with Wazalendo from an unspecified Mayi Mayi faction, loyal to the self-proclaimed general 'Tango Fort' in the Mukalangirwa district of Butembo (Butembo, Nord-Kivu). Casualties unknown. RNL accused the other Mayi Mayi of recurrent abuses against civilian populations, torture, and usurpation of sovereign powers, namely judicial and customary powers. Automatic gunfire was heard.
