On 3 January 2026, in Caracas - Libertador (Distrito Capital), tactical US Delta Force teams clashed with Venezuelan and Cuban special forces who were safeguarding President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. The teams arrived in the area by helicopter, and the clashes are suspected to have taken place inside a bunker known as La Casa de Los Pinos within the Fuerte Tiuna military base. There were multiple fatalities on the defenders' side and several injuries among the US Delta Force teams. Following the operation, Nicolas Maduro and his wife were extracted by US forces (coded separately). Initial unconfirmed estimates of fatalities from several strikes on military bases in the Caracas metropolitan area range between at least 74 and 100 military personnel, including Cuban security forces.
