On 3 January 2026, in Catia La Mar (La Guaira), the United States military carried out airstrikes against the Naval Military Academy as part of the coordinated strikes that day across several locations in Venezuela, which concluded with the arrest and extraction of Nicolas Maduro and his wife (coded separately). One of the strikes hit a residential building, destroying half of its apartments (8/16) and killing an elderly woman. Two GNB soldiers were killed. Seven people were injured; it is unspecified whether they were civilians or combatants. At least 3 fatalities.
