On 3 January 2026, an unidentified armed group operating from the Kainji Lake National Park forest attacked and killed over 30 civilians in the Kasuwan Daji market in Kabe (Borgu, Niger). The assailants also abducted an unspecified number of civilians, burnt down a village market and looted food items, valuables worth millions of naira and other wares. Several houses were also burnt. This triggered panic, prompting most villagers to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
