On 3 January 2026, police forces clashed with an unidentified armed group in the vicinity of the weekly market in Feriana (Feriana, Kasserine). The Ministry of Interior stated that security units had launched an operation to thwart a 'terrorist' attack (unknown whether this was imminent and was to take place at the market) and described the targets as a group of 'extremist elements'. 1 member of the armed group was killed in the clash, and another was arrested. 1 police officer was injured and later died of his wounds after being transferred to a hospital. There were 2 fatalities.
