On 2 January 2026, in Manta (Manta, Manabi), an unknown number of armed assailants intercepted a car in Mazato neighborhood and fatally shot four people in a drive-by shooting. The four fatal victims died at the scene, and two others were taken to the hospital with gunshot injuries. Authorities confirmed that none of the victims had prior criminal records, and two of the fatal victims were teenagers. Investigations are ongoing and no arrests were made. 4 fatalities.
