On 2 January 2026, unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle shot and killed a commander of the PMF's Peace Companies in Al Murour Street in the Al Mu'allimin Old Quarter in the center of Amara city (Maysan) due to unknown reasons. The victim was from Al Basrah province, nicknamed Al Da'alaj, and was wanted by the judiciary in the case of the murder of an Asaib Ahl Al Haq leader in 2019. The perpetrators fled the scene. Police forces cordoned off the area and opened an investigation. 1 fatality.
