On 2 January 2026, SSPDF and SPLM/A-IO clashed at the Nadapal checkpoint, a border town near Kenya (Kapoeta East, Eastern Equatoria), resulting in at least 4 fatalities on the SSPDF side while a civilian was injured. A weapons depot was struck, causing an explosion. SPLM/A-IO claimed to have captured the town, but the claims were not verified. The clash disrupted transport along the Kapoeta-Nadapal route while an unspecified number of civilians were displaced from the area.
