On 1 January 2026, in Son Kone village (Budalin township, Monywa district, Sagaing region), local resistance groups attacked a column of about 80 Myanmar military soldiers retreating from Budalin town to the Northwestern Military Command Headquarters in Monywa town at around 9:00 am. The Myanmar military soldiers in the Northwestern Military Command Headquarters fired heavy weapons during the armed clash. The fighting lasted about 2 hours. Casualties unknown.
