On 1 January 2026, in Tocumbo, Michoacan, at least 20 armed individuals travelling in four vehicles shot at a municipal police patrol and injured at least two officers (drive-by) on Boulevard Lazaro Cardenas. One police officer died later at the hospital. According to the authorities, this event is related to the ongoing conflict between criminal groups such as the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Los Reyes Cartel. The perpetrators were later identified as members of the CJNG. 1 fatality.
