On 1 January 2026, NPA militants clashed with the 76th Infantry Battalion and the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion in Barangay Cabacao (Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro, Mimaropa Region). The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) said the military deployed helicopter gunships that strafed and fired rockets with no regard for civilians in the area. They also said that the military attacked the NPA unit that was observing a unilateral ceasefire from 31 December 2025 to 1 January 2026. A soldier was wounded, while the details on the NPA casualties are still being determined.
