Clashes broke out in Taungtha Township, Mandalay Region, when resistance forces ambushed a military column that was en route to provide security for polling stations, resulting in casualties among junta soldiers. Additionally, one soldier reportedly defected in Myothit Township.

According to a representative from Myingyan District Battalion No. 3, at around 8 a.m. on January 18, resistance forces ambushed a military column of about 200 troops near Padat Sakone Village in Taungtha Township. The military contingent was traveling from Kyaukpadaung Township to Taungtha to provide election security.
