On 28 December 2025, in Manta (Manta, Manabi), an unknown number of assailants fatally shot a man over 15 times in the Urbirrios 1 neighborhood, before fleeing in a vehicle. Authorities suspect the attack is related to territorial disputes between criminal groups, since the victim had over 12 prior criminal records. The criminal organization to which the fatal victim belonged to was not disclosed. No arrests were made. 1 fatality.
