CBRN event in Conakry, Conakry area, Guinea on Sat 27th December 2025

On 27 December 2025, around 4am, security forces (including gendarmes, police, and special forces agents) clashed with an unidentified armed group during a security operation in Sonfonia AFRICOF in Conakry (Matoto, Conakry, Conakry), targeting the armed group suspected of having planned 'subversive acts against national security', amid planned elections scheduled for the next day. The operation lasted hours and 'completely neutralized the group' and led to the arrest of the involved. Injuries and property damage occurred. According to a family member, a 25-year-old was shot dead while a young welder was injured in the face, kicked by an officer. According to another resident, heavily armed special forces agents also combed the area, fired live ammunition, and launched tear gas into gutters hours. Residents also described 'loud explosions' while some stated that the operation targeted a senior officer living in the neighborhood. Absent from his home at the time, his sentry was said to have resisted the invasion. Several dead were said to have been transported on army trucks as well as injured.
