On 23 December 2025, in Santiago, Nuevo Leon, at least two men shot at officers of the State Agency of Investigation (AEI), injuring one of them. The officers shot back, killed them and arrested two people, including a woman. The men were a founder of Los Zetas and a former military officer who had also been a bodyguard of a former Zeta leader. The former members of Los Zetas were suspectedly organizing the foundation of a new gang in the area. 2 fatalities, 1 injured.
