On 23 December 2025, a Papuan civilian stepped on an explosive device that was placed on a civilian path used for daily movement between houses and gardens in the Gunung road area in Dekai district (Yahukimo regency, Highland Papua province). He was taken to the Dekai Regional General Hospital for medical treatment. The victim suffered severe wounds to the head, right thigh, left hand, and abdomen from the blast he triggered by stepping on the explosive device. Human Rights Monitor accused the Indonesian military of planting multiple explosive devices around houses, gardens, and civilian activity routes in the area.
