On 21 December 2025, in Couva, Couva-Tabaquite-Talparo, overnight, unidentified armed individuals fired shots around the house of a business owner man who had received phone threats by extortionists hours before. The extortionists had asked for the payment of 100,000 TT dollars as a condition for him to open his business safely. They also threatened to harm his son and daughter. After the shooting, the police found casing shells around the property. The attack was suspected to be related to extortion. There were no casualties.
