On 21 December 2025, in Cuenca (Azuay), four unidentified individuals beat and kidnapped three people. They were forced into a jeep in the Las Orquideas neighborhood and beaten inside the vehicle. They were taken to the outskirts of the city, along Panamerica Norte. The police received an alert and started pursuing the attackers. Authorities suspect that the victims are part of a criminal group different from the attackers. The victims claimed that the perpetrators stated that they were part of Los Tiguerones and Los Lobos gangs. Two of the perpetrators were arrested and the two others managed to escape.
