On 21 December 2025, in Santa Rosa (El Oro), two armed hooded individuals riding a motorcycle shot and killed a man and a child and injured another person in a drive-by shooting at a shop at 16th and Morona Santiago streets. Authorities suspect that the adult, who had a record for drug trafficking, was the target of the attack and the child was injured collaterally. 2 fatalities.
