On 21 December 2025, a vehicle of the Malian army and Africa Corps struck an IED planted by JNIM militants between Goundam and Tombouctou, coded to Niambourgou (Douekire, Goundam, Tombouctou), a midpoint on the road between the two locations. JNIM claimed responsibility for the attack and published photographs of the scene, but did not provide further information. Casualties unknown.
