On 19 December 2025, persons from the Khasi tribe fired shots and killed 2 Bangladeshi nationals at 2 different locations inside the Indian territory in Meghalaya (coded to Shillong city, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya) after they entered illegally into Indian territory. Claims were made that they had entered India to collect firewood. The BSF rejected the claims stating that the Khasi community was not involved and attributed the incident to an internal feud and inter-gang rivalry in Bangladesh.
