On 19 December 2025, suspected Malay Muslim separatists shot and killed a Volunteer Defense Corps officer (unarmed), aged 34, outside his home in Kayae, Du Song Yo, Chanae (Narathiwat), as he was preparing to ride his motorcycle to Friday prayers; the separatists, believed to have been hiding in a nearby orchard, fired a single shot that struck him from the back and fled the scene.
