In Kyaukpyu Township, Rakhine State, where clashes are ongoing between the Arakan Army (AA/ULA) and military council troops, shells fired by the military council killed two internally displaced persons (IDPs), according to local residents.

The victims, from Thanzin Chaung village, were hiding in the fields due to fighting when they were killed on January 14 by heavy weapons fire from a military council warship. A Kyaukpyu local told Shwe Phee Myay, "Kyaukpyu Navy fired shells at Thanzin Chaung village. Two shells landed near the village—one in the fields where a husband-and-wife pair were staying, killing them both."
