On 18 December 2025, in Vertentes (Pernambuco), military police officers exchanged fire with armed suspects. The officers conducted an operation to locate and arrest the suspects, who were wanted for drug trafficking. The suspects resisted and fired against the officers, leading to an armed clash. A suspect, who was a former city councilor of the Joao Alfredo municipality for the PSD, was shot and killed. He was a drug trafficking leader. Police seized a firearm and ammunition. 1 fatality.
