SAA event in Guayas, Guayaquil - Tarqui area, Ecuador on Wed 17th December 2025

On 17 December 2025, in Guayaquil - Tarqui (Guayas), two armed assailants shot and killed a couple and injured another person inside a butcher shop in the Samanes 4 neighborhood. One victim was a professional football player, and the other was his Peruvian partner. The woman had prior legal records related to labor disputes, eviction proceedings, and failure to affiliate employees with social security, while the football player had been previously reported in a 2019 case for document falsification. Authorities suspect the woman was the primary target, linked to lending large sums of money and having received prior threats. Two Venezuelan nationals were later arrested in connection with the shooting; one has prior criminal records for illicit association, while the other has no known police history. 2 fatalities.
