Around 16 December 2025 (week of), several members of the Peace Companies interrogated and beat the head of the encroachments office of Al Maqil city (coded as Al Maqil city, Al Basrah), after he had overseen the demolition of an illegally built house belonging to a Peace Companies official and cleric. The assailants filmed the beating. The victim had earlier asked the governor of Al Basrah for protection after receiving threats. He was fired. Muqtada al-Sadr decided to freeze all units of the Peace Companies in Al Basrah and Wassit provinces for 6 months and close their headquarters in Basrah and Kut cities. 1 injured. There were no fatalities.
