On 16 December 2025, an unidentified armed group shot and killed 1 off-duty soldier and abducted 13 passengers from two vehicles along the Okene-Auchi Federal Highway, coded to the nearest town, Okengwe (Okene, Kogi). The soldier was among the passengers of a commercial bus and was killed when the attackers recognized him as a soldier. There was 1 fatality.
