SAA event in Nord-Kivu, Tuonane area, Congo, the Democratic Republic of the on Mon 15th December 2025

On 15 December 2025, FDLR led by the self-proclaimed General Mudayongwa clashed with Mayi Mayi (Kifuafua) in Tuonane (Masisi, Nord-Kivu), after attacking the village and setting fire to houses, burning to death 4 individuals (including two Mayi Mayi) who were asleep. Mudayongwa claimed ownership of the land in this part of the Waloa Loanda groupement, which he claimed to have purchased from local dignitaries, contrary to what the local population claimed. Residents fled toward the villages of Kifuruka, Kaundju, Katambira, and Busurungi. Heavy and light weapons were heard. On top of the 4 people who were killed while sleeping, 6 FDLR died in the clash for a total of 10 fatalities. One civilian was injured by gunshot.
