On 15 December 2025, in Manta (Manabi), several armed men shot and killed a man in the Ciudadela 20 de Mayo, in front of a church, the same location where another man was killed and his companion was kidnapped later that day. Witnesses heard between 10 and 15 shots. Because of the high level of violence in the Ciudadela 20 de Mayo, authorities did not rule out the possibility that the attack was related to disputes between armed groups over control of drug trafficking in the area. 1 fatality.
