On 14 December 2025, in Guayaquil - Tarqui (Guayas), between six and seven armed individuals who arrived in a van shot and killed four siblings and injured their father inside their home in the El Fortin sector, Nueva Prosperina district. Their mother witnessed the killings. The attackers were dressed similarly to police officers. None of the deceased had a criminal record. Authorities suspect that the perpetrators may have confused their target, who was likely a member of a criminal group who lived nearby. 4 fatalities.
