Russia, the aggressor state, struck critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine’s Zhytomyr Oblast overnight on Jan. 15. The attack was reported by Vitalii Bunechko, head of the Zhytomyr Oblast Military Administration.
According to Bunechko, critical infrastructure sites were hit in the Zhytomyr and Korosten districts. No casualties or injuries were reported.
Repair crews are continuing restoration work on damaged facilities when security conditions allow, he said.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service of Ukraine said a fire broke out at a critical infrastructure site in Zhytomyr Oblast following the Russian strike.
Rescue operations were complicated by repeated air raid alerts, but firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, the agency said.
Russian forces have targeted critical infrastructure facilities in Zhytomyr Oblast for three consecutive days, from Jan. 11 to Jan. 13.
During the overnight attack on Jan. 15, Russia launched 82 attack drones against Ukraine, including Shahed-type UAVs as well as Gerbera, Italmas, and other drone models. Ukrainian air defenses shot down or electronically suppressed 61 enemy drones.
