Grenade event in Magway, Taungdwingyi area, Myanmar on Wed 14th January 2026

A spokesperson from the Pontawaddy People's Defense Force told Yangon Khit Thit news agency that four junta soldiers were killed and five weapons captured when resistance forces ambushed an extortion squad returning along the Naypyidaw-Taungdwingyi railway in Taungdwingyi Township, Magway Region.

Around 8 p.m. on January 14, junta troops garrisoned in Pyu Chaung Village had set up a toll point at Kola Ma village junction along the railway. As they returned to Pyu Chaung after collecting extortion money from civilian vehicles, resistance fighters intercepted them along the road.

The attack killed four soldiers, with one more seriously injured. Forces seized four MA-1 rifles, one 79 rifle, six 40mm grenades, 990 rounds of ammunition, 10 magazines, and two bulletproof vests from the soldiers.
