Around 6:30 a.m. on January 13, three junta armored vehicles departed from Na Ma checkpoint, entered Ma U Gite area to collect "tolls" from civilian vehicles, and set up along the road. As two house-supply trucks carrying election ballots from Chaung-U arrived near White Bridge, resistance fighters triggered the mine.

The explosion directly hit the extorting soldiers, killing two on the spot with possible additional injuries. The spokesperson said, "Two junta soldiers were visibly killed. There may be more wounded. We timed the ambush when they were collecting tolls as the ballot trucks from Chaung-U arrived."
