Local residents said that junta troops raided Sabae Taung village in Tada-U Township, Kyaukse District, Mandalay Region, killing a monk by burning him alive, shooting dead one civilian, and setting dozens of houses on fire.
At around 5 a.m. on January 7, a military column entered Sabae Taung village and shot dead U Nyunt Aung, a 50‑year‑old man who was unable to flee in time. They also burned to death a monk in his seventies who was in poor health and could not escape.
The troops then torched 73 civilian homes in the village, completely destroying them. Villagers remain in displacement and are in urgent need of food and basic supplies.
