On January 12, a Bangladeshi man, Md Hanif, 28, a resident of Whykong Union, lost his left leg in an explosion after stepping on a landmine, believed to have been planted by the secessionist Myanmar group Arakan Army, along the banks of the Naf River in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar District, reports Somoy News. On January 11, two Bangladeshis, including a child, were injured in gunfire from Myanmar in the Teknaf border area. The child is fighting for his life. Recently, mortar shells from Myanmar struck border villages, leaving Bangladeshi families terrified and their homes in ruins.
