Seven people were killed this Saturday in Michoacán, including three municipal police officers, in attacks perpetrated by armed men in the municipalities of Zamora, Purúandiro and Uruapan.
The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that the first attack occurred around 2:30 a.m. on January 10 in the municipality of Zamora, where gunmen opened fire on a municipal police patrol car at the intersection of Corregidora and Niños Héroes streets in the Jardines de Catedral neighborhood. The police returned fire, according to Latinus.
The attackers killed with bursts of assault rifle fire. Officers Israel Castillo Reyes and Roberto Alfredo Bravo García were killed, while Agent Luis Manuel Mendoza Montalvo was seriously injured and died hours later in a private hospital.
The attackers then fled in a white Kia Forte with Oaxaca license plates TMV-64-69, which was later abandoned on Juárez Avenue. Inside the vehicle, police found an assault rifle, a tactical vest, and a box of tire spikes, as well as traces of blood, presumably from one of the wounded gunmen.
