Three police vehicles were stoned and an office sustained injury on New Year’s Eve in Honiara when patrolling and attending to police reports.

Naha Police responded to a report of domestic violence at a residence in Ferakusia in east Honiara when a suspect struck left mirror.

Apolice officer also sustained an injury on his back when attending to a report at Ferakusia, but the officer is in stable condition.

The suspect of domestic violence escaped upon police arrival and stoned the police vehicle.

The vehicles were on patrol and attended to reports in different locations in Honiara and Guadalcanal.

Two vehicles owned by Guadalcanal police and Honiara City Police were badly damaged, with their rear screens.

A vehicle owned by the Honiara City Police was also stoned at the Tasahe B area close to the Green tank area, while a vehicle owned by Guadalcanal police was hit by a rock close to the roundabout at the crossroads at Sun Valley.

Two vehicles damaged were among the new vehicles donated by the Australian government to support police for the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) leaders meeting in Honiara.

Police are investigating these shocking incidents, and people involved will face justice for their ill action.

Supervising Assistant (AC) Commissioner National Operations and Operation Commander Festive Season Mr. Francis Ramoni appeals to our good people to respect police assets.

AC Ramoni said these vehicles are very important to save lives when needed in the communities. It is very sad to see very few people with dull minds rock our officers with police vehicles.

“I urge our good people to respect police officers while they are doing their duties. It is crucial for everyone to remember that police officers work tirelessly to maintain safety and order in our communities,” said Mr. Ramoni.

Police had been busy during the New Year’s eve patroling the streets, highways and communities.

A Kukum area leading up to the Florence Young and Mbua Valley area, a group of youths were also causing disturbance. And police had to intervened to chase them away.
