On 13 December 2025, Al Shabaab conducted a mortar attack targeting government security forces (SNA) at a base in Hiilweyne village (Balcad, Middle Shabelle). The mortars rounds landed inside or outside the camp. The SNA Chief commander was present in the area at the time of the attack. Casualties unknown. Al Shabaab claimed responsibility.
