In Mogok town, Mandalay Region, locals report that the military deliberately shelled civilian areas, killing one senior monk and one woman and damaging a Buddhist monastery.

At about 8:28 a.m. on January 4, the military fired heavy weapons into the eastern part of Mogok, targeting the Lel Oo Monastery, a school, and the area around the Shwe Khin Thar 5‑Mile viewpoint. As a result, one senior monk from Lel Oo Monastery was hit and passed away, a woman was also killed, and Yadanar Thiri Monastery was damaged.
