According to local residents, five junta soldiers were killed when troops stationed near the Eastern Hospital in Moe Kot Township, Mandalay Region, came under artillery fire.

The attack occurred at around 1:44 p.m. on January 1, when three artillery shells landed and exploded near the Eastern Hospital. The shells struck the area where soldiers had been positioned, killing five of them. One shell also landed and exploded near the Aye Myat Phyu tailoring shop, but no civilians were injured as residents had already fled the area due to ongoing military tensions.
