At around 1:17 a.m. on January 2, a junta fighter jet from the Tada-U Air Base dropped two bombs on the Basic Education High School in Pakhut Village, Maulu area of Indaw Township. Locals confirmed that no fighting was occurring in the area at the time.

During the airstrike, an 18-year-old Grade 12 student from Taung Philar Village, who was boarding at the school, was killed instantly, while two other students were seriously injured. The explosion also damaged school buildings and several nearby houses.
