On January 7, a gangster involved in masterminding the murder of an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch (head of gram panchayat) was killed in a police encounter near Bhikhiwind in Tarn Taran District of Punjab, reports The Tribune. The deceased was identified as Harnoor Singh, a resident of Kathunangal in Amritsar District, who was wanted for allegedly planning the killing of Jarmal Singh, the sarpanch of Valtoha Sandhua village. Two assailants gunned down Jarmal Singh at a wedding ceremony in Amritsar on January 5, 2026.
