6th January 2026
On January 6, Meghalaya Police recovered a cache of concealed live ammunition in South West Garo Hills District of Meghalaya, near the IndiaBangladesh border, reports The Meghalayan Express. Acting on source-based intelligence, Police teams from Salmanpara and Ampati Police Stations (PS) conducted a search at a bamboo grove near Santogre village in the Salmanpara area, where 55 live rounds of high-powered anti-aircraft gun ammunition were unearthed. Investigators suspect the cache was left behind by Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) or its former collaborator, the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA). Both outfits had earlier used the Garo Hills corridor to access Bangladesh and maintained cross-border logistics and safe houses. Further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended use of the ammunition.
